Almost 99.9% of the fabrics are synthetic paints??

It is said that
more than 99.9% of fabrics all around the world are painted with synthetic paints.

So most of the clothes you wear everyday are painted with synthetic paints.

But, “-uzu-” uses “natural dye” for designs instead.

-uzu- indigo hand dye cloth

so, what is “synthetic paints” that’s different from natural dye??

The history is very short,

W .H. Perkin from England has announced the first synthetic paints in 1856.

They only had natural paints after 19th century,
but it spread out with in 150 years and changed the share.

There are many articles and literature that explains the difference of  natural and synthetic paints

but I’m going to state what I know by actually dying them.

[Natural paint]

*the quality is unstable
Pigments in natural paint are not stable
so it’s is almost impossible to make exact same color.

*it takes while to make dark color usually
dying again and again to make it dark.

*there is a periodic change for dying
Color difference due to the period of picking paint materials
or change of color due to the season happens.

Something like that.

It’s not conveniently to use for factory production. Lol

[synthetic paint]
The quality of paint itself is stable so you can quantify
and can paint dark that’s possible to maintain stable.

With such a hard work with natural dye,
the reason “-uzu-” does hand dye is
Efficacy of natural dye!!

Unique texture that can’t be expressed with synthetic paints.

We hand dye with natural paints because of these features.

Imagining it was the time when they didn’t had enough information exchange,

“it’s the dying technique found by craftsman’s experiences and intuitions with character of area,

and they must had many techniques that was difficult to make them into universal.”

That’s exact I feel while I dye.

There is a great feature with natural dye texture which can not be express with efficient dying using synthetic paints and that’s why “-usu-” can find new value with design dying with natural.

Exactly, “A BRAND NEW OLD SCHOOL”
